H-O Racing 1974 Trans Am SD-455 NHRA SS/KA Record Holder

H-O Racing campaigns a new drag race car

As most muscle car (and all Pontiac) enthusiasts know, the 1973-74 455 Super Duty (SD-455) engine was the last of the era's factory high performance car and engines one could buy off the show room floor. That the Pontiac SD-455 engine existed at all defied almost all odds. They were rare and difficult to buy, ultimately being available only very limited numbers in Trans Am and Formula Firebirds.

These pages describe H-O Racing's 1974 Trans Am SD-455 4-speed which was driven on the street for six months, then raced as an NHRA G/Stock class car for a year, then converted into an NHRA SS/KA (and occasionally SS/LA) class drag car.
